Where: Wood Island Landfill, Munising YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO UNLOAD YOUR OWN DROPOFF - AS GFL WILL NOT HAVE STAFF ON HAND TO ASSIST!! YOU MUST PROVIDE NAME AND PROPERTY ADDRESS. A LIMIT OF ONE TRUCK LOAD PER HOUSEHOLD
Please contact Supervisor, Tom Balmes at 906/892-8279, with questions. TIRES (without rims) will be accepted, a MAXIMUM of 4 per household will be strictly enforced.
MATTRESSES will be accepted, with a maximum of 1 per household.
NO Construction materials accepted - wood remnants, roofing etc.
NO Refrigerators, freezers or air conditioning units will be accepted (with or without freon).
Additional items that WILL NOT be accepted: Ashes, brush, yard waste, leaves, propane tanks, batteries, engines or motors containing gas or oil, fuel tanks, air conditioning units, and drums of any size. **IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR  Lakeshore property owners on Au Train Lake and the Au Train River!!**

The US Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting a survey of the Au Train Lake and River areas
(From Au Train Lake through to the Au Train River mouth at Lake Superior) in the Township. They expect to be in the field starting on November 1, 2026 —The purpose of the survey is to begin a study of what changes may occur due to alterations that did take place and what future actions by the State/EGLE at the Forest Lake Dam will take place (next Spring/Summer). This study will help mitigate any negative issues from the dam alterations, including the River flooding that has occurred in the past from sand and ice build up at the mouth —

Any waterfront property owners that need more information or has issues with the USACOE traversing their property, please call Thomas Balmes, Au Train Township Supervisor at (906)892-8279.

This is a good thing for our Township and is being funding solely through funds obtained by the USACOE.

**November 3, 2026 General Election**

Absent Voter ballots will be going in the mail starting Monday, September 28th.  If you are on the Permanent Ballot List it will be mailed to your registered address automatically.  You don’t need to file again.  If you will be leaving the area in the next couple of weeks you need to provide the Clerk with your alternate address.  The USPS cannot forward Election Mail!!

*Garbage Pickup Reminders*

We have extended our contract with GFL with the renewal of the Garbage Fund Millage.  Our local contact is the Wood Island Landfill Facility. E10081 State Highway M28 Wetmore, MI 49895 (906)387-2646 Monday through Friday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.  

Residents/Taxpayers are allowed 2 garbage carts weekly.  NO ADDITONAL GARBAGE WILL BE PICKED UP BY ADDING ANOTHER CART OR PLACING THINGS OUTSIDE THE CART.  There will be no exceptions!!  To replace or purchase a cart you are responsible for the cost and need to reach out to GFL Direct.   If you have questions or concerns, please contact Supervisor Balmes at (906)892-8279.
